Outdoor adventures

In this Geography video, teachers receive guidance on delivering activities that help EYFS children describe the world around them using their senses. The video highlights how geographical learning in the early years can begin with simple sensory experiences, helping the children notice and talk about seasonal changes, sounds in nature, weather conditions and textures in their surroundings. Teachers are encouraged to model expressive language and introduce key geographical vocabulary during everyday routines and outdoor play.

It also suggests ways to extend the children’s thinking through open-ended questions, comparisons and creative responses such as drawing, mapping or storytelling. The focus is on building confidence in observation and description, which are essential early skills for geography.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s EYFS Geography videos, helping teachers embed geographical awareness through purposeful outdoor learning.
