Describe what they see, hear and feel whilst outside

This Geography scheme of work video provides guidance on delivering activities that help EYFS pupils describe the world around them using their senses. The video highlights how geographical learning in the early years can begin with simple sensory experiences, helping children notice and talk about seasonal changes, sounds in nature, weather conditions and textures in their surroundings. Teachers are encouraged to model expressive language and introduce key geographical vocabulary during everyday routines and outdoor play.

It also suggests ways to extend children’s thinking through open-ended questions, comparisons, and creative responses such as drawing, mapping, or storytelling. The focus is on building confidence in observation and description — essential early skills for geography.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s EYFS Geography resources, helping teachers embed geographical awareness through purposeful outdoor learning.
