Exploring animals and habitats

This Science scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Early Years pupils explore animals and their habitats through the Animal adventures unit. Children begin by searching for mini-beasts, observing movement, colours, and body parts, before expanding their understanding with immersive videos that showcase a range of global environments. The video guides teachers in supporting vocabulary development, observation skills, and early classification using hands-on activities, stories, and playful exploration.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Science Animal scheme of work. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in achieving Early Learning Goals for Understanding the world. With small group tasks, engaging questions, and opportunities to compare animals and environments, the unit builds strong scientific foundations and inspires curiosity through meaningful outdoor and classroom-based learning experiences.
