Maya and Anglo-Saxon comparisons

This History video introduces teachers to the similarities and differences between the Maya civilisation during the Classic period and Anglo-Saxon England. It focuses on comparing governance, geography, and archaeological evidence from both civilisations, supporting a broader understanding of how people lived in different parts of the world during the same time in history. Teachers will gain insight into Maya city-states, their religious leadership, and their contrast with Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and secular rule.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s History scheme – Maya. It provides historical context and comparison points that help children explore how different civilisations were structured, governed, and remembered. The video supports teachers in leading lessons that highlight parallel developments in Mesoamerica and Britain, reinforcing chronological thinking and global awareness in the classroom.
