What is ScratchJr?

This Computing scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to support pupils using ScratchJr, an introductory block-based coding platform for younger learners. It helps teachers feel confident guiding the children as they create simple animations and stories by combining colour-coded blocks and developing an understanding of sequencing, loops and events in an intuitive way.

The video demonstrates navigating ScratchJr, from selecting sprites and customizing backgrounds to constructing scripts that control movement, appearance and sound. It provides practical strategies for helping the children build interactive projects that encourage creativity, experimentation and computational thinking.
