Understanding abstraction

This Computing scheme of work video introduces the children to abstraction, a key computational thinking skill for KS2. It explains how abstraction helps the children focus on important information while ignoring unnecessary details, making problem-solving more efficient.

The video uses real-life examples such as reading maps, typing on a keyboard and playing video games to show how abstraction works in everyday situations. It then applies the concept to coding in Scratch, demonstrating how abstraction can simplify a sequence of actions using loops and other programming tools. This video supports the children in developing efficient problem-solving strategies and writing cleaner, simpler code in Computing.
