Carving soap sculptures

In this Art and design scheme of work video, pupils learn how to carve their own sculpture using soap as creative way to explore form and detail.

The video begins with children sketching the sculpture idea. Pupils are encouraged to choose a clear, simple shape, as this will be easier to carve. Once they’ve planned their design, they’re ready to begin sculpting. Using a clay shaping tool, pupils carve away small pieces of soap, slowly shaping it into their chosen form. They’re reminded to work patiently and carefully, taking their time to reveal the basic structure. Once the main shape is complete, they begin adding finer details, making sure they work with care to bring their sculpture to life.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Mega materials unit. It helps children develop skills in 3D art through hands-on activity.
