Planning a sculpture

This Art and design scheme of work video introduces the memory box project, where pupils create a 3D sculpture inside a box inspired by their time in primary school. Children will design a sculptural piece that reflects key memories, using techniques and ideas explored throughout the unit.

Pupils begin by sketching ideas in their sketchbooks. They’ll reflect on their favourite moments and consider which materials and techniques best represent them. The video encourages them to think creatively and explore different approaches, which could be inspired by different artist. They’re guided to consider practicalities too, including what will go inside, where to find materials, and what permissions might be needed.

This is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 6 Making memories unit. It is designed to help pupils express identity, reflect on their primary experience, and build confidence in making thoughtful, personal artwork.
