Demonstrating how to make a plastic bottle terrarium
This Geography scheme of work video guides pupils through creating a miniature garden using a recycled plastic bottle. The activity introduces sustainable design thinking and practical making skills by showing how everyday materials can be reused to support plant life.
Pupils are shown how to cut and prepare a plastic bottle safely, layer materials like stones and soil, and carefully plant and position their chosen greenery. The video highlights the importance of drainage, light and moisture, connecting scientific understanding with creative construction.
This hands-on project not only supports ecological awareness but also builds pupils’ independence, planning and problem-solving skills. The resulting terrarium becomes a living model for care and observation, linking directly to themes of environmental responsibility and seasonal change.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Sustainability Collectionresources encouraging creativity through eco-conscious making.
