Repurposing a recycled bottle

In this Geography video, pupils are guided through creating a miniature garden using a recycled plastic bottle. The activity introduces sustainable design thinking and practical making skills, showing how everyday materials can be reused to support plant life.

The video demonstrates how to safely cut and prepare a plastic bottle, layer materials such as stones and soil, and carefully plant and position greenery. It highlights the importance of drainage, light and moisture, connecting scientific understanding with creative construction.

This hands-on project supports ecological awareness while developing pupils’ independence, planning and problem-solving skills. The resulting terrarium becomes a living model for care and observation, linking to environmental responsibility and seasonal change.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Sustainability Collection, encouraging creativity through eco-conscious making.
