Repurposing a recycled plastic bottle

In this Geography video, pupils are guided through creating a functional and decorative hanging planter by reusing a plastic bottle. The project supports sustainability awareness and introduces pupils to practical making skills with a clear purpose.

Pupils are guided step by step through preparing the bottle, shaping the planting area, and adding string or wire to allow for safe and secure hanging. The video demonstrates how to design with plants in mind, considering weight, water drainage and sunlight exposure.

As pupils build their planters, they explore the importance of upcycling materials and creating products that are both useful and environmentally friendly. The final planter can be used to grow herbs, flowers or small vegetables, linking the activity to science and wellbeing.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Sustainability collection, empowering pupils to make purposeful, eco-conscious products.
