Repurposing a recycled plastic bottle

In this Geography video, pupils are guided through creating a simple, functional bird feeder. The activity introduces sustainability and caring for nature while supporting key DT skills in planning, construction and safe tool use.

The video provides step-by-step guidance for cutting, shaping and assembling the feeder, including making openings for feeding, adding perches and hanging the bottle securely. Pupils are encouraged to work accurately and creatively, developing independence while considering the needs of local wildlife.

Material choices and the value of re-using items that might otherwise be discarded are highlighted, linking directly to environmental responsibility and user-centred design.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Sustainability collection, empowering pupils to make purposeful, eco-conscious products.
