Demonstrating how to make a plastic bottle bird feeder
This Geography scheme of work video shows pupils how to transform a used plastic bottle into a simple, functional bird feeder. The activity introduces sustainability and caring for nature while supporting key DT skills in planning, construction and safe tool use.
Pupils follow step-by-step guidance to cut, shape and assemble their feeder, learning how to make openings for feeding, add perches, and hang the bottle securely. The video promotes accuracy, creativity and independence, encouraging pupils to think about the needs of local wildlife.
As pupils complete their feeders, they are encouraged to consider material choices and the importance of re-using items that might otherwise be discarded. This links directly to curriculum themes of environmental responsibility and user-centred design.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography – Sustainability collection resources, empowering pupils to make purposeful, eco-conscious products.
