Looking closely at plants
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and introduces the diversity of plant forms found in nature. The video explores common features of plants—such as roots, stems, leaves, and flowers – while highlighting the wide variety of shapes, sizes, colours, and textures that plants can have.
Pupils are encouraged to observe and describe different plant features, from the soft petals of tulips and the circular patterns of sunflowers to the jagged edges of nettles and floating lily pads. Through close observation, they develop vocabulary and scientific skills to describe and compare plant characteristics.
The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Reception, Reception units, Our beautiful planet, Lesson 2: Plants
