Using onion skinning to animate

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Computing scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and introduces the onion skinning feature used in animation software. Pupils begin by placing an object on a background and clicking to add it to the first frame. The video explains how to use the green ‘add’ button to insert additional frames and activate the onion skinning tool. As the animation progresses, pupils learn to move the object slightly and add new frames, carefully positioning each movement using the ghosted image as a guide. This technique, used by real animators, helps create smoother and more realistic motion. Once enough frames are added, the video demonstrates how to preview the finished animation using the play button, allowing pupils to see their object come to life.
