Pupil video: Note or chord?

Pupil video: Differences between notes or chords

This Music video introduces children to the concept of chords and explores how they are created from individual notes. Through clear demonstrations and musical examples, pupils learn the difference between notes played one at a time to create a melody and notes played together to create a chord.

The video supports children in developing their understanding of harmony by exploring how chords can influence the mood and character of music.

Through step-by-step modelling, children learn how chords are constructed by starting on a note, missing a note and then playing the next note. The video demonstrates how to build and perform an F chord, emphasising the importance of playing the notes simultaneously to create a full, harmonious sound.

As they watch and listen, pupils develop their musical vocabulary and gain a deeper understanding of how chords support melodies and form the foundation of many songs. The video encourages active listening and practical exploration, helping children build confidence in identifying, constructing and performing simple chords.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Music curriculum support materials, designed to help teachers develop confidence, subject knowledge and practical strategies when delivering the Four-Chord Pop unit.
