Preparing automaton frame parts

This Design and technology scheme of work video shows the children how to prepare wooden and card pieces to build an automaton toy frame. It demonstrates how to mark and saw wood safely using a bench hook, label each part to make assembly easier and create axle holes using either a drill or punched card. The video also explains how to measure and cut the frame supports and card tops so that everything is ready to build in the next lesson.

Each step is shown clearly to help the children understand how to use the tools safely and prepare the materials accurately. This video will help the children feel confident and ready to begin making their automaton structures.
