Printmaking

This Art and Design scheme of work video guides pupils through the process of printing using lino or polystyrene tiles, from creating a printing plate to making their final print.

Children begin by transferring their design using tracing paper and carving their tile. Safety guidance is given throughout, including how to use carving tools correctly and how to control the pressure for different textures and effects.

Once the plate is ready, pupils learn how to ink a roller. They then apply the ink evenly to the plate and press paper on top to create their print. The video explains how much pressure is needed for different materials, and how to peel the paper away carefully to reveal the artwork.

This process helps pupils understand positive and negative space, how to build texture, and how pressure and control affect the final image. It supports creative exploration through printing techniques and gives pupils the confidence to make their original artwork.
