How to care for pets

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores how to care for different kinds of pets, depending on the animal group they belong to. Pupils will learn that mammals like cats, dogs, and rabbits need exercise, healthy food, and a clean, safe place to rest. These animals often enjoy company, play, and even training. The video also introduces other pet groups: reptiles like snakes need heat lamps, birds need space and enrichment, and fish need clean tanks with the right temperature. Pupils will also meet an amphibian pet, the axolotl, and learn about its special gills and cold-water needs. The video shows that all pets, no matter their group, need care, attention, and love to stay healthy and happy.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Key stage 1, Year 1, Animals: Comparing animals, Lesson 5: Pets
