How sliding mechanisms can make learning fun

In this Design and technology video, pupils learn about different products that children can use to help them learn various skills using sliding mechanisms.

The video explores sliders in books to reveal parts of the story, how they can be used to make puzzles to develop problem-solving skills and how they can be used to learn to count. The pupils are encouraged to think about a product they could make that uses sliders to help someone learn or develop a skill. In this unit, the pupils investigate how to make simple sliders with paper and then develop this into a product with two matching sliders to help children learn to read simple words.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
