Testing wind and seed travel
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores how wind strength affects seed dispersal through a hands-on investigation. Pupils are guided step-by-step as they prepare a model seed and test how far it travels when exposed to gentle, medium, and strong wind sources. The video demonstrates how to set up the experiment, measure seed movement, and record results accurately in a table.
Pupils are encouraged to repeat their tests to ensure reliable data and to identify any results that may be unusual or inconsistent. The activity helps develop key working scientifically skills, including fair testing, accurate measurement, recording data, and evaluating reliability.
The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Mixed-age, Y3/4 (B): Making connections: How does wind force affect seed dispersal?, Y3/4 (B): Lesson 2: Investigating seed dispersal – Gathering data
