Exploring New Delhi, India
This Geography scheme of work video introduces pupils to New Delhi, the capital city of India, located in Asia. Pupils will explore both human and physical features of the city through narrated visuals and real-life examples, supporting their ability to compare distant places with their own local area.
The video begins by showing where New Delhi is located on a world map and introduces the Yamuna River, which runs to the east of the city. Pupils will see that New Delhi is a very busy and modern city, with lots of offices, roads, and public transport such as the New Delhi Railway and the Delhi Metro—the largest underground train system in India.Pupils are introduced to the city’s lively markets, including the one in Paharganj, where different foods and goods are sold. They’ll also explore peaceful green spaces like Lodhi Gardens, with its winding paths, interesting buildings and plants.
Throughout the video, pupils are encouraged to think about how New Delhi is similar or different to the place they live. This supports learning around comparing a non-European location to a familiar locality.
