Exploring New Delhi, India

In this Geography scheme of work video, pupils are introduced to New Delhi, the capital city of India, located in Asia. Through narrated visuals and real-life footage, they explore both the human and physical features of the city, supporting the children’s understanding of how places can be compared and contrasted with their own local area.

The video begins by showing New Delhi’s location on a world map and highlighting the Yamuna River, which flows to the east of the city. Pupils discover that New Delhi is a busy, modern city filled with offices, roads, and public transport such as the Delhi Metro—the largest underground train system in India. They also see the city’s lively markets, including Paharganj, and peaceful green spaces like Lodhi Gardens, with its historic buildings and varied plant life.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography locational knowledge collection and supports pupils in developing their understanding of diverse places and cultures around the world.
