Energy changes all around us
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores how energy changes from one form to another.- The video begins by revisiting familiar types of energy—such as light, heat, and electrical energy—and uses simple circuits to show how chemical energy stored in a battery transforms into electrical energy, and then into light, sound, or heat through components.
The narrative then shifts to the natural world, examining how energy transfers through a food chain. It explains how plants convert light energy into chemical energy, which is stored as food and passed on to consumers like animals. Pupils see how energy is used for movement and how, when organisms die, the energy stored in them returns to the soil. The video demonstrates how energy flows and changes across both man-made and natural systems, helping pupils connect their learning across topics.
The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, Mixed-age, Y3/4 (A): Making connections: How does food affect muscle fatigue?, Y3/4 (A): Lesson 1: Investigating muscle fatigue – Planning
