Using online 3D CAD to design playground structures

In this Design and technology video, the pupils learn the basics of how to use Tinkercad and see some examples of how to use it to model structures.

The video introduces the basics of using Tinkercad to design simple 3D models. After logging in and starting a new 3D design, users work on the workplane by adding, resizing, moving, rotating, copying and colouring basic shapes, while using the view cube to check models from different angles. It then shows how these tools can be combined to create simple structures, such as frames made from long cuboids, adding sides and a roof and designing more complex features like slides and swings using rotated shapes and curves.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Design and technology videos, which enable teachers and pupils to explore and make their own products.
