Finding and fixing errors in Python

This Computing video introduces Year 6 pupils to debugging Python programs. It helps children understand that code does not always work as expected and that programmers need to identify and fix problems.

The video explains three types of bugs: syntax and spacing bugs, logic bugs and loop bugs. The children see how to debug systematically by running the program, observing what happens and reading error messages. They explore how to spot missing colons, spelling mistakes, indentation errors and incorrect ranges, and how fixing these allows the program to run correctly. The video encourages the children to test their code and add comments to explain what they have fixed.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing Year 5 and 6 videos, which enable teachers and pupils to develop their digital skills, explore key computing concepts and create their own digital projects.
