Standing up for beliefs
In this History video, the children explore how Sikh teachings and leadership helped people stand up against unfair treatment during the Mughal Empire and the founding of the Sikh Empire. They learn how some Mughal rulers tried to force others to change their religion, creating a difficult time for many communities. Sikh Gurus such as Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji bravely defended the right to choose one’s own beliefs, even at the cost of their lives.
The video continues by introducing Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the formation of the Khalsa in 1699. The children discover how the Khalsa was created to protect people, stand against injustice and follow the Gurus’ teachings. Later, Maharaja Ranjit Singh led the Sikh Empire using these values, creating a peaceful kingdom where everyone could live freely and follow their own beliefs. His leadership shows how fairness, courage and compassion can shape a more equal and respectful society.
This video is part of our cultural history resources. It supports the children in exploring how religious and moral values can influence leadership and society, encouraging reflection on fairness, courage and standing up for what is right.
