Exploring animal homes

In this Geography video, the children are introduced to animal habitats through captivating footage that shows a range of animals and where they live. The children will see a hedgehog foraging in the grass, a magpie building its nest, and insects such as bees and woodlice in their natural habitats.

The video is a starting point in a Geography Reception Sustainability lesson in which the children learn how to help local animals by making places for them to live. They will explore areas around the school grounds, comparing places where fewer animals live, such as the concrete playground, to areas rich in wildlife. The video encourages careful observation of animals. They will later explore ideas for reusing materials to create animal homes.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Geography Sustainability collection. It supports discussions about how creating animal homes can help look after the environment.
