Important update!

The licence for the song ‘Dragon Ships’ (Out of the Ark) used in this unit expires at the end of March 2026. From April 2026, it will be replaced with an alternative song. Presentations, audio files and activity sheets will be updated accordingly. If you have previously downloaded these resources, please download the updated versions before teaching the unit. The musical progression of the unit will not be affected.

Unit outcomes

Pupils who are secure will be able to:

  • Move and sing as a team, following the lyrics on the screen.
  • Recognise minims, crotchets and quavers often by ear and reliably by sight.
  • Perform rhythms accurately from notation and layer them to create a composition.
  • Add appropriate sound effects to their performances using untuned percussion.
  • Join in with the performances confidently, and reasonably in time and tune.
  • Make suggestions for improving their performance.
