Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support:

  • Could use the Activity: Words with Greek origin during the Attention grabber and highlight the Greek-origin words on the sheet.
  • Should use the relevant section of the Activity: Explaining the legacies to help them prepare for the mini presentation during the Main event.
  • Could decide which is the most important and the least important legacy, rather than ranking all of them on the diamond nine.

Pupils working at greater depth:

  • Should deduce whether one legacy depends on another to exist today during the Diamond nine discussion and use this to help them decide the ranking. For example, ‘Democracy relies on questioning and reasoning, so questioning and reasoning should be ranked higher.’
  • Should consider whether one legacy might become more or less important in the future during the Diamond nine discussion and explain their reasoning. For example, ‘Mathematics might become even more important in the future because it is used in coding and computer technology.’
