This downloadable document is meant for those following our RSE & PSHE Long-term plan — condensed. It shows how Kapow Primary's RSE & PSHE scheme of work develops skills and knowledge from Reception through to Year 6 in each of our key areas: Families and relationships, Health and wellbeing, Safety and the changing body, Citizenship and Economic wellbeing.
If you follow our standard RSE & PSHE: Long-term plan, see RSE & PSHE: Progression of skills and knowledge.
If you follow our RSE & PSHE: Long term plan — mixed-age, see RSE & PSHE: Progression of skills and knowledge — mixed-age.
What skills and knowledge do pupils learn through Kapow Primary’s RSE and PSHE scheme of work?
At Kapow Primary, we pride ourselves in providing schools with everything they need to teach a comprehensive RSE & PSHE programme. Our scheme of work, created by RSE and PSHE specialists, provides full coverage of the National curriculum guidance. It also supports the PSHE Association’s Programme of study and includes content mapped to the Education for a Connected World framework.
Through our scheme of work, pupils will learn about:
- Valuing different family structures.
- Creating and maintaining positive friendships.
- Developing safe and respectful relationships.
- Understanding the changes that take place during puberty.
- Promoting good health and carrying out first aid.
- Learning to make independent choices and not be influenced by others.
- Operating safely in a digital world.

Read moreWhat does this document cover?
This document is to be used by those schools who are following our Condensed long-term plan.
It gives an overview of the skills and knowledge covered in each year group and strand across the units of lessons. Although our EYFS: Reception lessons are categorised under Self-regulation, Building relationships and Managing self units to match the EYFS:Framework, we have included organised skills and knowledge statements under the key areas we use throughout the rest of our scheme to more easily show progression between year groups.
Please note that the Condensed long-term plan does not cover all the skills and knowledge covered in our full scheme of work.
It does ensure that children are given opportunities to work towards all of the end of primary school targets set out in the RSE statutory guidance although we recommend that schools carefully assess pupils to decide whether any areas need covering in more depth (perhaps using our standard curriculum).
