A mapping document showing each of the National curriculum's statutory attainment targets and which Science mixed-age units work towards them, broken down into scientific knowledge and understanding and working scientifically.
How does Kapow Primary help our school to meet the statutory guidance for Science?
This mapping document shows simply and clearly how Kapow Primary’s science curriculum fulfils the statutory requirements outlined in the national curriculum (2014). Our scheme of work was carefully designed to meet all of the NC attainment targets, with recommendations of the Ofsted Research review series: science and Finding the optimum: the science subject report in mind.
The national curriculum Programme of study for science aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the
specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics - develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science
through different types of scientific enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them - are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
The subject specialists at Kapow Primary identified these strands, which run through our scheme of work:
- Scientific knowledge and understanding
- Working scientifically
- Science in action
These strands run throughout our 7 key areas (plants; animals including humans; living things and their habitats; materials; energy; forces, Earth and space; and making connections), and ensure a complete and balanced science curriculum for the primary school.
The Working scientifically attainment targets from the National curriculum are aimed to be covered over two years, which is why the working scientifically statements appear to be repeated.
