A handy D&T long-term planning document, offering full oversight of the subject throughout the primary age range. Providing lots of further information, including how our scheme has been designed and how it can be tailored to your teaching and learning needs, it is a one-stop-shop for teachers and leaders alike. The organisation of our Design and technology curriculum is explained, detailing the strands that thread through every unit: Design, Make, Evaluate and Technical knowledge. Each unit is hyperlinked and a short description of the content gives you an overview of Kapow's Design and technology curriculum.
Is this scheme right for my school?
If you are short on D&T teaching time, but still need to ensure fulfilment of the statutory requirements for the subject, then this scheme is for you. Providing an overview of D&T teaching across the school, Kapow Primary’s comprehensive, condensed long-term plan for Design and technology ensures that schools are able to fulfil the D&T national curriculum requirements in just 18 lessons per year. As with our standard D&T scheme, the curriculum is organised around six key areas (Structures, Mechanisms, Textiles, Electrical Systems, Digital World, and Cooking and Nutrition) and four key strands (Design, Make, Evaluate, and Technical Knowledge), with each unit hyperlinked and a brief overview provided. In order to reduce the teaching time needed, specific omissions are suggested for each unit. Please note that not all the skills and knowledge from our D&T: Progression of skills and knowledge document will be covered: you are advised to see our D&T: Progression of skills and knowledge — condensed version for further details of the skills and knowledge covered if you follow the condensed curriculum.
If your school wishes to teach D&T most weeks throughout the year, you may wish to look at our Long-term plan – standard version, or for those settings that alternate between Art and design and Design and technology teaching each half term, see the Long-term plan – combined version.
