Curriculum updates 2025
The Curriculum and Assessment Review will publish its final report sometime in Autumn 2025. At that point, the Government will provide more details about any curriculum changes and how they will be implemented.
No. The interim report indicates that the Government is likely to propose a phased implementation of reforms across different subjects. Schools will receive advance notice regarding implementation timelines and will have adequate preparation time before the new curriculum becomes statutory.
The Review Panel has said it will recommend an ‘evolution, not revolution’ approach. Changes are likely to include:
- Better balance between breadth and depth in primary subjects.
- Stronger focus on mastery of foundational concepts in English and maths.
- Updates to address social, environmental and technological change (such as sustainability, digital skills, AI and media literacy).
- A more inclusive and representative curriculum, so that all children see themselves reflected in it.
Assessments will continue to play a key role, but the Review is considering:
- Improvements to KS2 writing assessment.
- Making assessments more inclusive for pupils with SEND.
Traditional exams (i.e. SATs and GCSEs) will remain the main form of assessment but refinements are expected.
Yes. The Government has said that all state schools, including academies, will be required to teach the National curriculum after the Review. Many academies already do so but this will ensure consistency across the system.
It has been more than a decade since the last review (2011–2013). The new Review aims to ensure that the curriculum remains cutting-edge, knowledge-rich, broad and balanced and that it prepares young people for life and work in a rapidly changing world.
Yes. Kapow Primary is committed to ensuring full coverage of the National curriculum across all the subjects offered.
As soon as the final curriculum is released in Autumn 2025, we will review every subject to make sure all content aligns with the new requirements.
This commitment ensures that your subscription will always provide comprehensive coverage of the National curriculum, allowing you to plan with confidence.
We will respond as soon as the final curriculum is published. In practice, there will be a period when schools continue to teach the current National curriculum, so our existing resources will remain fully available and appropriate for use.
At the same time, we will begin updating our materials in line with the new curriculum. The first step will be to update the knowledge and skills progression documents. Once these are in place, we will suggest updates to our long-term plans and then implement the changes in units and lessons.
This work will be completed well ahead of the date the new curriculum comes into effect. Schools will be regularly informed throughout the process.
Yes. We will provide clear guidance on what the changes are in each subject and explain how we plan to address them. This may include:
- Updating our curriculum on the progression of knowledge and skills document.
- Removing units that no longer fit.
- Adding new units.
- Amending existing lessons.
- A combination of the above actions.
This approach provides schools with clarity and reassurance on how Kapow Primary’s resources will continue to provide full curriculum coverage.
The National curriculum serves as the foundation for each subject. Kapow Primary's curriculum is designed to ensure gradual progression toward the endpoints outlined in the National curriculum. If these endpoints change, it affects the foundation of our subjects.
Our update process will follow the sequence:
- Progression of knowledge and skills documents — updated first, to reflect the new endpoints and provide clarity on what pupils need to know and be able to do at each stage.
- Long-term plans — adjusted next, to map out how schools can cover the updated progression across the year.
- Units and lessons — finally, we’ll make changes at the classroom level to ensure teaching resources are fully aligned.
Yes. We will create support materials and CPD opportunities to guide teachers through the changes. These may include webinars, short videos and written guides, ensuring staff feel confident to adapt quickly.
One key benefit of Kapow Primary is that, once the new curriculum is implemented, our teacher videos will support staff in effectively delivering the updated curriculum.
No. Updates to curriculum coverage are included with your current subscription. This is part of our commitment to keeping Kapow Primary current and aligned with national expectations.
Yes. Schools will continue to teach the current National curriculum until the new curriculum officially takes effect. This will be confirmed in the Curriculum and Assessment Review's final report. Throughout this transition, all existing Kapow Primary resources will remain fully aligned and appropriate for use.
To ensure our content remains up-to-date with the new curriculum, we will archive any units that no longer meet the requirements. These archived units will remain accessible, as we recognise they are valued and useful resources.
Schools will likely approach the transition differently: some might want to adopt changes as soon as possible, while others may prefer a more gradual shift. Our guidance and resources will support both approaches, so you can proceed at the pace that best suits your school.
We will clearly mark all lessons and units to show their alignment with the new curriculum. Additionally, our search tools will include filters, allowing you to quickly find the relevant content from the new curriculum.
We will keep you updated at every stage. Updates will be shared through:
- Our Curriculum updates page, where you’ll find the latest information about changes and how Kapow Primary is responding.
- Regular emails and newsletters, so you don’t miss key announcements.
- In-platform notifications and blogs, highlighting new or updated resources.
This means you will always know what has changed, what’s coming next and how Kapow supports you to stay fully aligned with the curriculum.
Downloads not working
The lesson presentations are not downloadable or editable for technical and copyright reasons.
The teacher and pupil videos are for streaming only and cannot be downloaded. If you want to collect the videos in one place to share with your colleagues, we suggest you share the links to the lesson pages instead.
We limit downloads for users during a free trial.
Otherwise, if you cannot download a pdf or editable document, this is likely to be because some browsers’ security settings block downloads from sites that are not authorised. Once you have authorised the Kapow Primary website, you will then be able to download resources. You will be able to search online for help to unblock our resources for your particular browser.
Please note that it is not possible to download presentations or videos.

An individual teacher trial lasts 7 days, and a whole school trial lasts 14 days. You will have full access to all subjects on the website, including all of our lesson plans and other resources. You must add at least one teacher to a school free trial to see the website content. We limit downloads during free trials. Sign up here.
The cost depends on the size of your school and the number of subjects you buy. The more subjects you choose to buy, the less each subject costs. School membership covers an unlimited number of users in your school.
Schools can upgrade at any point in their subscription year and still benefit from the multi-subject discount. If you upgrade your subscription part way through the subscription year, we pro-rate the price and length of the subscription for the extra subject(s) so that access to all your subjects ends on the same date.

Yes. Our resources are designed around the national curriculum for primary schools in England, but the practical nature of Kapow Primary's subjects and our adaptable resources mean that teachers from all over the world find inspiration and time-saving content. Several international schools are members of Kapow Primary.
We are unable to offer individual teacher memberships other than our free Wellbeing module.
Mixed-age
It doesn’t matter if pupils start with mixed-age schemes Cycle A or Cycle B, as both cycles cover the same key areas of learning. For most subjects, units of lessons should be taught in a specific order. Please see the mixed-age long-term plans for each subject for more information.
Our mixed-age scheme Art scheme is taught over two years as Cycle A and Cycle B. Lessons from the same key areas are included in both cycles to ensure progression. For example, in Art and design the National Curriculum core areas like ‘drawing’ and ‘sculpture and 3D’ are grouped together within a cycle. This ensures skills and knowledge progression no matter which order the cycles are taught.
We have a variety of planning materials available to support mixed-age teaching across Kapow subjects. For Art, they include:
Planning
Not every teacher will teach at the same pace, but this is the approximate time you should allow for each subject:
Subject | Recommended teaching time |
---|---|
Art & design | 1 hour |
Computing | 1 hour |
Design & technology | 1 hour |
French | 45 minutes |
Geography | 1 hour* |
History | 1 hour |
Music | 1 hour |
RSE & PSHE | 45 minutes |
Religion & worldviews | 1 hour |
Science | 90 minutes |
Spanish | 45 minutes |
Wellbeing | 45 minutes |
*Allow more time for Geography fieldwork lessons
Our resources include diverse images, names and scenarios reflecting different backgrounds, genders, disabilities and challenging stereotypes.
Here are some subject-specific examples:
- Religion and worldviews presents diversity between and within a range of worldviews by including personal responses, images and other information reflecting a broad range of people, contexts and perspectives.
- History lessons teach pupils about a diverse range of historical persons and stories, including those from underrepresented and marginalised groups.
- In Art and design, children learn about art and ethnically diverse artists across cultures and throughout history.
- The Music curriculum includes a variety of musical genres from every continent and composers and musicians from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Our curriculum resources are accessible in the following ways:
- Adaptive teaching suggestions.
- Customisable colour schemes in lesson presentations.
- Knowledge organisers to pre-teach or recap key language/ideas.
- Varied teaching methods to engage different learning styles and needs.
- Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) document for every subject.
We have created condensed planning for schools that are short of time. This has been carefully constructed so that it still allows you to meet full national curriculum requirements. However, if you decide to omit a unit from the condensed curriculum, it does pose the risk of certain skills or knowledge being missed or not consolidated.
RSE/PSHE
The updated RSE curriculum from the DfE will be statutory from September 2026. Our curriculum team is working through the new guidance to ensure our resources align fully. We will publish our updated RSE & PSHE resources in May 2026 ahead of the autumn term. For more information, see: Updates to RSE & Health Education Statutory Guidance (July 2025) - What does it mean for primary schools?
Yes, you can still use all of the existing Kapow Primary resources. Our curriculum team review all materials to ensure they align with the statutory guidance.
The changes to RSE include new topics and added reinforcement in existing areas, updated guidance surrounding language used, and increased emphasis on prevention, positivity, relationships, safety, parental engagement, transparency and pupil voice. Further information can be found on the government website.
No, we don't specifically cover gender identity as a topic, although we do look at identity more generally. Gender identity does not form part of the national curriculum, and we would advise teachers to refer to their own school's policy when considering how and whether to address this in class, or when thinking about how to adapt lessons should one of their pupils be questioning their own gender identity.

Our PDFs can be opened and viewed on most tablets and e-readers, allowing users to zoom, adjust viewing fonts in e-reader accessibility software and use read-aloud features.
It is not necessary to request editable versions of Kapow PDFs for them to be accessible for children using tablets.

Yes, you can use Kapow Primary anywhere you have access to the internet.
You can find printable Word and PDF versions of the lesson plans on the lesson pages. When you scroll down, a dark grey bar will appear at the top of the page. Click on the arrow pointing downward to download the plan. To avoid missing out on updated content, only print the lesson plans as close to the date of teaching the lesson as possible. If you want to share the lesson with colleagues, share a link to the lesson instead to ensure they see the most recent version.
The teacher and pupil videos are for streaming only and cannot be downloaded. If you want to collect the videos in one place to share with your colleagues, we suggest you share the links to the lesson pages instead.
We discourage teachers from downloading lesson plans far in advance in case they miss out on updates. We understand that many schools do expect teachers to upload plans to their systems, but suggest uploading links instead - many schools do this and embed links to Kapow Primary into their intranets. In that way, teachers always have access to the most up-to-date versions and see the CPD videos.
We have found that a small number of schools' security systems block our videos. If this happens, you need to ask your IT department to mark Kapow Primary and www.wistia.com as safe sites.
Yes! We are constantly tweaking and improving our lessons, updating links, clarifying points and incorporating more CPD. While you are a subscriber you can always access the latest version of a lesson online. This is one reason why we recommend not printing lesson plans too far in advance - save links to the lessons instead.
At the time of creating our resources, and periodically, we check all the links. Sometimes a third-party may remove certain content, so the links will no longer work. Please contact us at [email protected] to let us know which links aren't working and which lesson you were looking at. We'll get them updated for you.
The account administrator for your school account can create sub-accounts for each member of staff so they have their own logons for Kapow Primary.
