Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support:

  • Could use the Knowledge organiser to identify tools and materials accurately when labelling designs.
  • Could use the Activity: Equipment list to organise materials and tools step by step by listing each item needed and ticking it off during construction, supporting planning and independence.
  • Could reinforce joints using card triangles and PVA glue to strengthen corners.

Pupils working at greater depth:

  • Should explain why chosen materials are suitable for different parts of the structure by referring to strength, rigidity or flexibility.
  • Should explain modifications made during construction by describing what was changed and why it improved the structure’s strength, stability or accuracy.
  • Could cut triangulation struts at an angle so they fit flush against the frame to refine structural reinforcement.
