Learning colours in French

This French scheme of work video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help Key stage 2 pupils learn and practise colour vocabulary while developing their phonics skills. It explores how to model sounds carefully, highlight common patterns and silent letters, and use repetition to build confidence with pronunciation. The video demonstrates each step, from introducing colours through pointing games and questioning to practising with competitive team activities like “Silence” and “Splat.”

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Language teacher video resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support the pupils in learning colour words and their spellings. With opportunities to spot cognates, focus on key sounds, and weave colour vocabulary into other subjects, the lesson makes language learning active, memorable and fun.
