Legacy of the Romans
This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Primary History scheme of work. It helps pupils explore what happened after the Romans left Britain and how their influence continued long after. The video explains how life changed following the Roman withdrawal in AD 410, and how many Roman ideas, inventions and traditions remained. Pupils discover how Roman roads, farming techniques, buildings, and the spread of Christianity shaped the future of Britain.
It also explores the lasting legacy of Roman culture on modern life. From the alphabet and language we use, to place names, Roman numerals, our calendar months and even the names of the planets, the video helps pupils recognise how the Romans continue to influence everyday life in Britain.
The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of History, Lower key stage 2, Year 3, *New* British history 2: Why did the Romans invade and settle in Britain? Lesson 6: What was the legacy of the Roman Empire in Britain?
