This document is designed to support schools in reviewing, updating or creating a Relationships Education/Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) policy that meets statutory requirements published in July 2025 for implementation from September 2026 and reflects their own context.

The main body text provides example policy wording that schools may adapt or adopt, as appropriate, to reflect their own setting, ethos and practice.

Throughout the document, boxed sections provide guidance, considerations and prompts. These are intended to support schools in:

  • Reviewing existing policy content.
  • Reflecting on statutory requirements and best practice.
  • Customising policy wording to meet the needs of their pupils, parents and wider school community.
