Creating air-powered toys

This Design and technology scheme of work video introduces teachers to supporting Year 3 children in building pneumatic toys using air-powered systems such as balloons or syringes with tubing. It shows how to assemble airtight mechanisms, integrate them into cardboard housings and add creative design elements.

Teachers are guided through key construction techniques, safety tips and ways to introduce challenge through material choices and mechanism design. The video models practical strategies to support all learners while encouraging independence and resilience during the making process. The video simplifies each step so teachers feel confident and well prepared to guide the children in completing their pneumatic toy designs.
