Why should we drink water?

This PSHE video helps children understand why drinking water is important for keeping our bodies healthy. Through clear examples, children learn that more than half of the human body is made of water and that drinking regularly helps our bodies work properly.

The video introduces the idea of being hydrated and explains how water can help us think clearly, move our bodies easily, keep our tummies happy and keep our bodies at the right temperature. Children also learn some signs of dehydration, such as feeling tired, dizzy or grumpy, finding it hard to concentrate, or getting headaches or tummy aches.

Children learn that we need fluids every day and that it is best to drink little and often across the day, with extra in warm weather or when we are active. The video explains that water is the best drink for hydration and that milk is also a healthy choice for children. It also highlights that sugary drinks such as fizzy drinks, fruit juice and squash should only be enjoyed sometimes because they can harm teeth and are not good for our bodies in large amounts.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s RSE & PSHE resources, supporting children to learn how to care for their bodies and make healthy food and drink choices.
