Creating installations from everyday objects

This Art and design scheme of work video prepares pupils to create installation art by transforming everyday classroom objects in creative and unique ways.

It introduces how artists have used furniture and familiar items to make art, encouraging pupils to explore how they could change scale, wrap objects, combine materials or display items in surprising places.

The video guides pupils to test out ideas as they work, reminding them that solving problems and trying new approaches is part of being creative. It also reinforces the importance of listening to teacher guidance on building their installation safely. Pupils are encouraged to experiment.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 5 Interactive installation unit.
