Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing support

Should use the Activity: Evaluate and improve a chair: support version to guide their thinking; could roll paper or card around an existing tube during the Main event, reducing the challenge of shaping strong components; could use the Resource: Improving a chair during the Main event to identify one problem with their chair and one method to improve it; could record their evaluation and improvements using a sound recording device instead of writing.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should explain how they improved their chair and evaluate whether the changes were successful using the Activity: Evaluate and improve a chair: extension; should suggest further improvements to their product, even if it already meets the design criteria; could add additional features or decorations to make their chair more appealing or better suited to the user.
