Pupils needing extra support

Could break up the activity to make it feel more manageable by completing the making stages one at a time and reviewing with the teacher before moving on; could work in pairs or small groups as a production line and switch stations; should use the Resource: Truss bridge cutting mat as a guide for cutting wood sections to the correct size.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should use a ruler and square to measure wood accurately after establishing the size using slide 11 of the Presentation: Materials – Wood or the Resource: Truss bridge cutting mat; should achieve a high-quality finish which is sanded down, accurate (with no gaps) and secured effectively.
