Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
- Could use the Knowledge organiser to recall and understand key vocabulary during discussion and writing.
- Could follow the story of Guru Gobind Singh using the Resource: Guru Gobind Singh’s challenges: child version.
- Could use the Activity: Hukam: support version to explain how belief in Hukam can help during difficult times by completing guided prompts.
- Could read independently or hear the teacher read the Resource: Transcript of Chardi Kala slowly to demonstrate clearly modelled language, provide additional processing time or repeat instruction or content, where needed.
Pupils working at greater depth:
- Should interpret the message of selected Sikh scripture extracts, explaining what they suggest about suffering and trust in God.
- Should explain in detail how beliefs in Hukam and Naam can help Sikhs respond to suffering, using examples from the stories of the Gurus.
- Should compare belief in Hukam with belief in fate, explaining how belief in God may lead to different responses to suffering.
- Could use the Resource: Scripture: extension during the Attention grabber.
