Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could use pre-cut nets so they can focus on folding and assembling their shell structure accurately; could be given pre-measured card pieces for attaching the straws when making ribbing, matched to the faces of their packaging to reduce the demands of measuring and cutting, or an extra printout of the net they made on Sketchpad, to cut themselves and use for the ribbing.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should test how the direction and placement of their ribbing affects the strength of the packaging and justify which arrangement works best, using evidence from their book-testing activity; could modify their packaging by adding additional reinforcement features (for example, cross-ribbing, layered ribs or corner stiffeners) and predict how these enhancements will affect strength and stability.
