Before starting this unit, you might want to check the children can recall:
How people in the present time know about the past.
Examples of evidence they have come across from the Viking times.
The usefulness and limitations of the evidence they have explored.
The meaning of the terms trade route and exchange.
Optional: provide each child with a copy of the Skills catcher (see link:Assessment - History Y5/6: What was life like in Tudor England?) and ask them to complete it to the best of their ability. Explain that at the end of the unit, they will revisit it, adding more information in a different colour.
