Organise the children into pairs or table groups. Explain that they will look at a set of pictures and think of a sentence to describe the number of brothers and sisters. The sentence must begin with J’ai... or Je n’ai pas... – 'I have' or 'I do not have'.

Show slide 1 and the first picture. Allow time for the children to create a sentence. Circulate to prompt and assess, and then take responses from a few groups. There may be variations in answers.

Show slide 2 to check the answer.

Repeat the activity with slides 3–8.
