Recap and recall

Explain that the children will revisit and explore the meaning of a key vocabulary word from the unit. Display the Presentation: Keyword detective and hand out whiteboards and pens. Ask the children to complete at least two of the five tasks shown on the slide. Allow time for independent or paired discussion as needed.

Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing support:

  • Should use the Resource: Word mat for vocabulary support in the lesson.
  • Could work in pairs to talk through their ideas before writing on whiteboards during the Recap and recall.
  • Could talk through their choices aloud before circling during the Activity: Family actions in the Main event.

Pupils working at greater depth:

  • Should discuss why it is important for a family to support one another in the Main event.
  • Could share their own examples of families spending time together, sharing responsibilities and supporting one another in the Main event.
  • Could identify actions or activities which overlap during the sorting activity in the Main event.
