Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
- Should use the Resource: Managing emotions and feelings (support) as a prompt in the Main event.
- Could cut up the cards on the Activity: Scenarios and focus on them one by one to avoid cognitive overload.
- Could stick each scenario on a piece of A4 paper and write or draw ideas for how the character could manage their feelings during the discussion.
Pupils working at greater depth:
- Should decide the most effective strategy to manage each character’s emotions in the Main event and explain why they think it would be effective. For example: ‘Priya should tell a trusted adult about her feelings; they will be able to reassure her that crushes are a normal part of puberty.’
- Should suggest a trusted source of support or information for each scenario in the Main event (for example, a trusted adult, a book from the school library, Childline or the NHS website) and explain why it might help the character.
- Could come up with their own scenario and strategy response in the Main event.
