Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing support:
- Could rewatch the Pupil video: A varied diet, pausing after key sections to identify ‘often’ and ‘sometimes’ foods before completing the sorting activity
- Could use cut-out food images from the Activity: Food sorting from Lesson 3: What foods can help me stay healthy? to physically place items into ‘often’ and ‘sometimes’ groups.
- Could complete the Activity: Often or sometimes? in pairs or small groups to reduce cognitive load.
Pupils working at greater depth:
- Should justify why a food or drink belongs in the ‘often’ or ‘sometimes’ group by explaining its effect on the body or mind (for example, linking sugar to teeth or energy levels).
- Should suggest additional improvements to Ray’s diet and explain how this change would make it more balanced.
