Lesson plan

1. Recap and recall

Before starting this unit, check whether the children (particularly returning pupils) know any words in French for greetings and introductions.

You could create 'brain buddies' so new pupils have a returning pupil buddy to work with throughout the scheme for certain activities.

Memory trail

Display slide 1 of the Presentation: Colour connections.

According to the colour code shown on the screen, the children either translate into English, answer the question in French, or translate into French. This is recently learned language. Children could work with a 'brain buddy' or have access to the Knowledge organiser: This is me from the previous unit.

Optional - provide each child with a copy of the Knowledge catcher (see link: Assessment - French Y3/Y4: Colourful creatures) and ask them to complete it to the best of their ability. Explain that at the end of the unit, they will revisit it, adding more information in a different colour.
