Lesson plan
The children will have learnt about electricity and circuits in Year 4 science, although this is not part of the Year 5 science curriculum. They may recall the names and functions of electrical components but they will need reminding about how to use them safely (see Cautions and the Presentation: Electrical components in the Attention grabber).
Check that the children can recall:
What electricity is and how it can power various products and appliances.
The difference between a battery and a mains power source.
