Weather and Water Cycle

Learning a range of weather phrases, children make statements about the weather which they build upon to include compass points, temperatures and French cities, concluding the topic by learning about the water cycle

Lesson 1: Weather Phrases

Having been introduced to weather phrases through symbols and mimes, children practise these by playing the game Répétez si c’est Vrai (Repeat if True) and a team game using a set of Weather Cards depicting winter accessories

Lesson 2: Weather Rap

Children consolidate their learning of weather phrases by playing the French version of 'Simon says...' using the mimes they learnt in Lesson 1 and perform a weather rap in small groups

Lesson 3: Compass Points

Pupils learn the compass points and combine these with the weather phrases from Lesson 2 and 3 to make statements about what the weather is like, plotting the appropriate symbol, in the correct place, on a map of France

Lesson 4: Temperature

Using their detective skills to match multiples of ten to the corresponding French word, pupils make statements about the weather in France, describing the temperature, cities and compass points

Lesson 5: Le Cycle de L’eau

Through a practical activity that explains the water cycle, children learn the cognates that describe the process then demonstrate their understanding by drawing a labelling Le Cycle de L’eau
