Lesson 4: About a beast with French adjectives

After looking at adjective families, children play a game in pairs against the clock, with one child acting as the 'runner' and the other as a 'scribe', to improve their understanding of different adjective forms

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Present ideas and information orally to a range of audiences
  • Speak in sentences, using familiar vocabulary, phrases and basic language structures
  • Develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases

During the week

  • Volunteers can add any new vocabulary to the shared class word bank.
  • Display a well-known character from a children’s story book and ask them to choose adjectives to describe their appearance ( for example, ‘The Gruffalo’).  This would tie in well with Book Week
  • For a real challenge – use the running dictation format, but instead of a text, children have to describe a picture of a monster. You could do this in pairs, or have confident volunteers come to the front to describe to the whole class.
